Custom Transitional Toe Extension, Ankle Dorsiflex and Foot Eversion Assist Orthotic
This foot orthotic consists of a short medial insert positioned forward and over a countered foot plate that runs the whole length of the foot with graded toe extension, uniquely graded to be higher for toes 3, 4, and 5, and lower for the first and second toe. The medial insert has one to three reinforcements or a unique strap that connects the lateral aspect of the mid foot to the medial insert. This optional strap is made of elastic material that lends itself to stretch increasing valgus in the hind foot as needed to maintain foot eversion assist. The footplate is countered to the actual anatomy of the foot versus being flat. The elastic strap can be lower or higher or both to avoid the Achillies tendon. The elastic strap can be optional if there is no need as the patient progresses and requires less assist with foot eversion. In addition, a very important feature is the raised surface placed on the lateral edge of the bottom of the foot plate. This raised edge on the lateral aspect of the foot plate runs the length of the foot plate from the head of the fifth metatarsal to the beginning of the heal area graded in height and width depending on the intensity of correction needed from mild to medium and strong. The purpose of this raised surface on the outer lateral edge of the bottom of the footplate is to assist with foot eversion and help prevent the foot brace from rolling outward laterally while in the shoe.
